My mom

This week my mom finally got the hip replacement surgery that she's been needing for the last several years. Her bone was degenerating and it was to the point where it was actually tearing itself when she puts weight on it or sits or breathes or exists.

The surgery was a really scary one. They were saying she only had a 50% chance of surviving the surgery but she was in so much pain that she had to give it a shot. They canceled the surgery no less than 10 times because of other infections or illnesses. (She is already immunocompromised so they weren't willing to add issues to the surgery when her risk was already so high. Frustrating as hell but we understood it.)

She was in tremendous pain every day and I'm so glad that there's maybe some light at the end of the tunnel here. She's an incredible lovely human and she's one of my best and closest friends. Nothing is real until I talk to my mom or my sister about it.

So she's going to be in the hospital for probably a while because the surgery was complicated and she's got so many health issues to contend with at the same time. So thanks to everybody on twitter and facebook for being there, sending prayers, and sending love. It was nice to be surrounded by people just caring about my mom.

Vidding/PodFic Progress

Sooooo. I said last year that I was going to document my progress in vidding. I have done more in the last three months than I have in like a year or so but it's still not a lot and I'm not yet done with one vid. Part of my problem with the whole vidding process this time is that I'm now teaching myself Final Cut Pro and it's clunky to work with because I'm used to using Adobe Premiere. Also, a lot of the teaching guides for the program seem to be written without vidding in mind. It's a lot of talk about syncing audio and different video shots taken from different angles and all of that... I don't need that. I need to figure out a way to clip out this movie and put things together so I can finally get this done.

Also, it took me like six months to find a song for the thing.

I have finally finished recording an entire podfic. I've started the editing process on that and jeezy creezy I actually like the reading part but editing it is mostly mind numbing. This is a podfic that was won at an auction in 2014... so yeah. I've got to get this done. I've mostly recorded this fic three times. Once I lost it to a dead computer and once I lost interest in it and apparently deleted it. The last time I tried recording it with another person but completely fell out of that when I noticed the huge discrepancies in our audio quality (mine being horrible). I bought a new mic for myself and that has lead to better audio but it's kind of a bitch to set up. I was used to a headset mic and it's a snowball so it's stationary. I tend to be kind of flaily when speaking and reading podfic is no different so it was an adjustment. It was also hard to deal with literally getting it to the height I needed it to be in order to record.

So in conclusion, I've done more than before but less than I wanted.

Mostly because I've been watching a lot of documentaries on historical castle building and serial killers.
